Introducing three delicious new contenders in the Waitaki region – the Whitestone Cheese Diner & Deli, Valli Wines wine bar, and The Gourmet Grocer. Wine and dine on these delectable offerings as you cruise around Ōamaru and Kurow.
Love a bit of wine and cheese? Then look no further than Whitestone’s newest culinary extension. Found in central Ōamaru, Whitestone Cheese Diner & Deli uses their very own cheese in the heart of every dish. From gourmet burgers, cheese rolls, platters, and cheese curds (don’t knock it till you’ve tried it), Whitestone Cheese Diner & Deli offers a tasty, cheesy spin on kiwi comfort foods.
Whitestone Cheese began in a converted garage with milk sourced from local Waitaki farms. Established in 1987 by fourth generation farmers, the Berry family launch their first ‘Whitestone Farmhouse’ cheese soon after.
Weathering the 1980s downturn and crippling droughts, Whitestone Cheese soon became a globally recognised cheese company. It now has over 25 different cheeses made by the premium creamy Waitaki milk.
Stop for a bite, enjoy a factory tour, and buy some delicious goods for your evening cheeseboard.
Valli Wine owners Nicole and Grant Schofield have opened the doors to their new cellar doors. Welcoming Waitaki punters to the refurbished post office in Kurow, Valli Wine Bar tells a unique story of this special region.
Grant’s family has a long history in Waitaki – his father used to be the station master for the train service to Kurow so it’s only fitting that Valli Wine opened its first wine bar in the sweet rural town, 45 minutes out of Ōamaru.
After recently celebrating 25 years of winemaking, Valli vineyards stretch from North Otago to the Waitaki Valley. Grant says that thanks to limestone-rich soils of Waitaki, their wines feature distinct notes of perfume and minerality.
Try their Pinot Noir – it’s an award-winning favourite!
Whether you need a delicious sandwich made with gourmet ingredients or a sweet local fix, look no further. Offering high quality food and beverages crafted by local artisans is The Gourmet Grocer’s specialty.
Located in the vibrant Ōamaru Victorian Precinct, take your time with a wander through a slice of Waitaki history.
Enjoy a grab-and-go lunch, some snacks for the road, and a gift for the whānau on your return.
