Featured as New Zealand’s longest cycle trail and described by many as the ‘jewel in the crown’ of New Zealand’s 22 Great Rides.
As the name suggests, the adventure begins at the foot of Mt Cook, New Zealand’s largest peak, then meanders its way past glacial-fed lakes, around golden tussock mountains out to the high country plains. You will be following alongside the Waitaki Hydro lakes and dams out to the braided Waitaki river and green plains of the Waitaki Valley, eventually finishing at the town of Oamaru and the shores of the Pacific Ocean.
Cycle the trail your way, take a fully guided tour and let someone else take care of all the work except peddling for you, or build your own itinerary to take on the trail in your way.
Allow 4-6 days for the entire ride or email Alps 2 Ocean’s expert staff
