For a golden holiday or as a base to travel the Vanished World Trail, turn-off 200m east of the bridge over the Maerewhenua River on the eastern edge of Duntroon and look for a signpost to Naseby and Danseys Pass.
The camp is 14km further on, snuggled into a valley in the surrounding hills, along the banks of the river. The grounds are well groomed and neatly edged with pine trees. There is a grass tennis court, a basketball net and a playground. On a lower level are some gorgeous riverside sites. The kitchen is well equipped, with an adjacent dining hall.
The excellent facilities are modern and clean, with huge shower cubicles. A carpeted and comfy TV room will be welcome on wet days; however, when it is fine there is a choice of two swimming holes. An alternative is gold panning (almost at your tent site) or fly fishing, tramping, mountain biking, or fossil hunting.
Powered sites $18 and Tent sites $16 per person.
