Moeraki is a tranquil fishing village, which was once used as a whaling station by early European settlers. Now, it’s more known for the famous Moeraki boulders, a series of mystical geological spheres scattered along the beach.

If you’re looking for a beautiful view, then look no further than Katiki Historic Reserve, where the endangered yellow-eyed penguin can be seen alongside the historic lighthouse still used today. If you need to get your bearings, the walkways at Katiki Point give you an incredible view of the Pacific Ocean and down the coast towards Dunedin.

No trip to Moeraki would be complete without seeing the Moeraki Boulders – formed around 60 million years ago, these concretions are scattered along the foreshore. Don’t forget to take a photo – the boulders look particularly special at sunset.
