Ōamaru’s Heritage Precinct
Stroll through New Zealand’s best preserved Victorian commercial streetscape. The original buildings, made from locally…
Originally an 1880’s grain elevator building in the Heritage Precinct of Ōamaru, Steampunk HQ is a unique museum of art, sound and light showing an altered universe. Do you dare to discover a place unlike anywhere else in New Zealand?
Well known for its full-scale train engine outside that spits fire and billows smoke, inside a museum of contraptions & bizarre machinery featuring heavy use of copper, gears, pipes & gas cylinders, as well as an ensemble of skeletal sculptures lit by flickering lights & accompanied by film, projection & sound. A back door leads to a large yard with projects in various stages of being steampunked.
Steampunk HQ must be experienced rather than explained.
