When British television chef and restaurateur Rick Stein was told he could choose to go anywhere in the world to write a travel article for English newspaper the Daily Mail, he chose Fleurs Place. Situated in the small seaside fishing village of Moeraki, Fleur’s specialty is fresh fish straight off the boats.
Fleurs Place is a charming and rustic restaurant, cafe and bar right on the waters edge in Moeraki by the old jetty.
Here the specialty is fresh seafood, supplied daily from the Moeraki Fishing boats.
The menu is carefully crafted and reflects what catch is available each day from the boats as well as what is in season – whether it be produce, whitebait or muttonbird.
The building itself is full of character to say the least. It has been built from demolition and other gathered materials from all around NZ. Messages and well-wishes from satisfied customers have been scrawled in black marker all over the walls – basically anywhere in reach.
