Oamaru's Victorian Precinct

Stroll through New Zealand’s best preserved
Victorian commercial streetscape.

The original buildings, made from locally quarried limestone, are a testament to Oamaru’s boom era, when it was an important port town, sending the first frozen meat exports around the world.

Today, the buildings are filled with galleries, shops, artisans, and delicious places to eat and drink. This area can be easily be seen by foot, and for if you want to learn the stories of why such a small town has so many magnificent buildings, take a walking tour of the area, which will be starting in mid-November 2019.
